If you work in Sweden and become involontary unemployed, our highly beneficial income insurance can give you greater financial security. Our income insurance can secure your monthly income of up to SEK 100,000 for 150 days.
If you are a professional member of Engineers of Sweden and a member of the Akademikernas a-kassa unemployment fund, our income insurance is included in your membership fee at no extra cost.
If you are a student member and switch to a professional membership, you can count your time as a student member toward the qualifying period for income insurance.
Our income insurance is designed for engineers’ salaries. The Engineers of Sweden income insurance supplements the limited unemployment insurance from Akademikernas a-kassa, in the event of involuntary unemployment.
In Sweden, unemployment insurance is known as a-kassa. It can provide a certain amount of income-related financial support if you lose your job. To qualify for such compensation in the event of unemployment, you must be a member of the Akademikernas a-kassa and meet certain conditions. This membership is separate from membership of Engineers of Sweden.
If you lose your job, you can receive unemployment compensation, but not more than 80 percent of the benefit ceiling set by the a-kassa, which is SEK 34,000 per month before tax.
Engineers of Sweden collaborates exclusively with the Akademikernas a-kassa, which is Sweden's largest a-kassa.
If your salary is higher than the a-kassa ceiling, a large part of your income will not be covered.
This is where Engineers of Sweden’s income insurance makes a difference.
For professional members, income insurance is included in the membership at no extra cost and active after twelve months of membership.
It complements compensation from Akademikernas a-kassa and allows compensation to be based on salaries of up to SEK 100,000 per month for 150 days in the event of involuntary unemployment.
This means you can receive up to 80 percent of a significantly higher salary than the standard a-kassa ceiling.
To receive compensation, you must meet the requirements of both the income insurance and Akademikernas a-kassa.
In Sweden, you can receive a maximum of 80 percent of your previous income if you are unemployed. The Engineers of Sweden income insurance can provide up to 80 percent of a monthly salary of SEK 100,000 before tax.

About supplementary income insurance at Folksam (in Swedish)
The Engineers of Sweden income insurance can provide compensation for 150 days in the event of involuntary unemployment.
After 100 days, payments from the Akademikernas a-kassa start to decrease in level. Our income insurance follows their reduction schedule. This means that the compensation decreases over time in accordance with the same model as that used by Akademikernas a-kassa.

If your salary changes, for example after a salary review or if you change jobs, you do not need to inform Engineers of Sweden.
Your income insurance is not based on salary information registered with us.
Once a year, we send a salary survey by email. By answering it, you help us build salary statistics that support engineers in salary negotiations in Sweden.
If you have purchased voluntary supplementary insurance, it is important that you report any salary changes directly to Folksam. Your supplementary insurance is based on the salary you choose to insure. If your salary increases and you do not update it, you may not be fully covered.

This is important. You must upgrade your membership before unemployment occurs in order to qualify for income insurance.
To be covered by income insurance, you need to:
You can upgrade for SEK 65 per month for the rest of the calendar year.
This also applies if you have not yet graduated but have completed at least 165 university credits in your engineering studies.
