Push for collective agreement at Spotify

Engineers of Sweden have sent a formal request to Spotify to initiate negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement. This applies to the company's employees in Sweden. The initiative is taken together with Unionen and Akavia.

Spotify's technical solutions have revolutionized how sound is consumed. Now it's time for the company to break new ground as an employer by signing a collective agreement. Increased influence for employees and opportunities for collaboration between unions and companies is positive in several ways. It strengthens the company's ability to handle difficult business changes and take on challenges

The request has been sent by Sweden's Engineers, Unionen, and Akavia. The negotiations will be conducted jointly. A request for negotiations is the first formal step in a process initiated by unions to encourage the company to sign a collective agreement. According to the provisions of the Medbestämmandelagen (MBL), negotiations should be initiated promptly after the request is submitted.

This is our second request for negotiation in the tech industry in a short time. It is both a way to extend a hand and at the same time give a clear push in the right direction. More fast-growing technology companies need to take the step and join the Swedish model of employee participation. Now is the time.

Sweden's Engineers, Unionen, and Akavia will now begin discussions and negotiations with representatives from Spotify. The ambition is to achieve a collective agreement as soon as possible. If it is not possible to reach an agreement through negotiations, there are possibilities for the unions to take industrial action.
